About Us
We connect OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) investigators with real-world environmental cases. Working with non-profit partner organisations, OSINT investigators can help tackle environmental challenges and expose environmental crimes such as illegal deforestation or wildlife trafficking.
The project is currently in its trial phase as a proof of concept. To help shape its future, please reach out or consider collaborating with us on its development.
What is this platform about?
We connect OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) investigators with real-world environmental cases. Working with non-profit partner organisations, OSINT investigators can help tackle environmental challenges and expose environmental crimes such as illegal deforestation or wildlife trafficking.
How does it work?
Our approach is as follows:
-
We work with partner organisations such as NGOs, activists and journalists who have active investigations on topics relating to environmental issues
-
In collaboration with partners, we produce case files containing relevant background information and starting source material to conduct investigations
-
Volunteer OSINT investigators collaborate to solve cases and provide verifiable data and information using publicly available sources.
-
Partner organisations use this data and information to make actionable outcomes with real world impacts. These may include the publications of exposes, initiation of formal complaints procedures or notifying relevant law enforcement.
What issues are you focused on?
We focus on a wide range of environmental issues and illegal activities including illegal deforestation, wildlife trafficking, illegal fishing, and pollution. Additionally, we intend to conduct investigations which expose corruption and profiteering and links to organised crime. Our focus is directed by our partner organisations with whom we design cases and challenges.
Who are you?
We are a very small group of environmental professionals. For now, we are (attempting) to remain anonymous as this project is in a trial period and we have day jobs in environmental research, activism and sustainability.
How do you make money?
Right now, we don't. We are entirely run by volunteers and use our own personal funds to cover costs. We hope to change this in the future once we have demonstrated the proof of concept. We will always offer OSINT cases and challenges for free to assist NGOs and non-profit organisations in their investigations. However, our long-term plan requires exploring various different funding models including philanthropic grants, sponsored challenges and potential corporate partnerships such as offering services to sustainability focused companies and certification schemes to cover the costs and pay investigators for their work. We commit to consulting extensively with our uses and partner organisations. To help shape the future of the project, consider helping us develop it by getting more involved.
